As women we have a unique power of creativity in our reproductive systems. That power is used not only to create new life, but also to bring personal projects into being. However, that energy can be blocked by physical, emotional, or spiritual trauma to the pelvic floor and the female organs. In this course for women, we use guided imagery, movement and hands-on exercises (all done with clothing on) to heal the pelvic floor, including the vagina and uterus, places that often hold our deepest wounds. These wounds include rape, abortions, sexual abuse, childbirth tearing and scars, self-esteem issues and negative images about our femininity. Because self-knowledge is important, scientific and anatomic information will also be presented.

Rarely does a course offer the opportunity for the depth of healing that women desire. The these five days you will experience whole new possibilities for renewed feminine energy, greater health, and a deeper sense of pleasure in being a woman. We will spend time exploring nature and how our connection to the earth to deepen our connection to ourselves. The week will culminate with a special evening of nurturing at the Esalen natural hot spring baths. This course is valuable for healthcare professionals, or anyone wishing to learn non-invasive techniques to heal women.

Designing Your Personal Path to Healing,
Wholeness and Vitality"

August 8 - 10, 2008
Esalen Institute, Big Sur, California

Taught by Suzanne Scurlock-Durana, Rachel Carlton Abrams
and Lisa Carlton

Join Suzanne Scurlock Durana (CranioSacral Therapist), Rachel Carlton Abrams (Holistic Physician) and Lisa Carlton (Life Coach) for an informative and playful weekend of learning, laughing and exploration. Ask all the questions you want about how to get excellent health care, how to find the right body worker when you need one, and how to juice yourself up and live your life with the passion innate to being a woman. Learn about your pleasure anatomy, your hormonal balance, and your inner landscape.

In our present day culture, it has never been more vital that you take responsibility for your own wellness. So many options exist to assist you on your path to healing. In fun and interactive sessions, we will explore what all of the healing traditions have to offer for your specific needs -- from Traditional Chinese Medicine to traditional Western Medicine, from CranioSacral work to Coaching, and from Nutrition to Naturopathy. Through movement, meditation, and the expressive arts, we will support you in accessing your own body intuition so that you can find the places in yourself that need healing and engage your own inner healer.

We will travel through all of the seasons of a woman's life -- from menstruation and sexuality to motherhood and issues with work and life balance to menopause and aging. We will address the health, structural and psychological issues present at each stage from all of our perspectives.

  • How do I deal with painful menstruation?
  • What contraception can I use that won't drive me crazy?
  • Why am I tired all the time?
  • How can I balance my work, my relationships, my family, and myself?
  • What approaches can I use for menopausal symptoms?
  • How do I get a good night's sleep?
  • How do I keep my body flexible, strong and resilient as I age?
  • How do I honor myself and focus on what I most need to create a healthy life path?

Time for sharing wisdom and experience as a community of women will be integrated throughout the weekend. By the end of the workshop, you will have a clear understanding of your most pressing health issues, concrete ideas of how you can help yourself, and who you can reliably consult to assist you in your healing. The intention of this workshop is to support you in claiming your power as a full and vital woman at every age.
